I don't take a very complicated attitude about "High-end" audio. Personally I would like my system to make everything sound as natural as live music though of course that is not fully attainable. But that is just my POV. Others may want dynamically ...

FWIW The wiring fault was determined by electrical testing not by visual inspection....

So the conductor list overweighted to British is expected for BBC. I think Stokowski has to be in the top 10 with Lenny, HvK and Toscanini. As for the festival, if the players are for it I wouldn't stop it. Those under 60 are much less susceptible an...

PS The unit
did have a minor issue when it arrived: One of the batteries was not
fixed strong enough and was rattling inside and also got disconnected. I
reconnected the battery before powering the unit up for the fi...

Romy, My unit went dead. I should note I have one of the old pre-move models. I brought it into my customary repair shop and they identified the battery and a small wire as the issue. They replaced them and the unit sounds better than ever or at leas...

Strange hums in odd places do often correlate with an internal PP fault. One time before the battery started to fail I got a strange hum through my SACD player. Never happened before. Later after the PP battery was replaced hum disappeared forever....

They have lithium battery conversion units with 1500 W for $1100. In reserahing them the issue is the limited number of AC outlets. These kind of home power or portable units seem more focused on USB and Wifi . But they are economical for the power p...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]no one know
what it is and how it sounds but I can bet all money in my pocket that
with this size it has problematic HF, not to mention that being a ribbon
it sound worse with each Hz of lower extension.

I would say Bach or baroque is a better choice for young kids. I know when I was a kid (under 10) the only classical music I liked was Baroque. Everything else seemed unpleasant....

As for Romy's legacy advice let's just say that Audio systems are the interior decorator part of music. ...

problem of dramatic variable sound quality due to grid influences, I

This product was discontinued but I still use several with my PP units. It was a balun to reduce common mode noise without limiting current. It does seem to help. One of the perplexing aspects of the double conversion devices is that they reduce ...

As long as the belt TT motor can be driven externally after IC failure then it shouldn't be a catastrophe. The direct drives are more problematic and I am not sure the effectiveness of workarounds. Nevertheless old DD TTs do seem available on the use...

I agree with Romy that unfortunately playing files from the computer (regardless of how they were produced) is sonically worse than playing disks through high quali...

I saw the drink cups and the framed photo next to the TT so it seemed that it was in someone's home. I guess we need Stich to chime back in on that. If it was a commercial presentation, then yes the system would be an issue because you don't know how...

I thought Stitch was commenting about an audition with someone who actually had the Zero TT in their home per the photos? Thus the industry demo system wouldn't be applicable here. ...

There does seem to be a fair consensus the Airforce Zero (not to be confused with Forsell) is a success. I assume its success is due to controlling vibration. I believe US $400k is a sale price as reviewers say it will be Over $400k, not including th...

I thought the Forsell TT was called the AirForce. What happened to them? Are the descendants now called TechDas?
Maybe someone can clarify: what does a TT need to do other than provide freedom from vibration, a place for a tonea...

I experience as do some others a variation in the effectiveness of the PP at certain times of the day/night cycle. Since it seems correlated at least partially to probable power co usage it seems reasonable to ascribe the variation to an isolation fa...

So there doesn't seem to be much else left than the PP unit itself producing the noise or more unlikely some weird interaction between components. ...

[quote user="kodomo"]Well, with my unit, you are right under one condition. It does not matter if I am on the battery or the ac line as long as the unit is connected, it sounds the same but it does not perform good. However if I am on the battery...

Send the two you have back and then PP will ship the 3rd and 4th units to you....

This component seems to have some serendipity to its development so I would lean that way in answering Romy's question about brilliance or luck. The poor trouble shooting skills of the PP developers (both in fixing and in redesigns) is one bit o...

Yes I can understand that in your current room the music seems clearer to you but you prefer some slight additional low frequency reverberation from the room to mix with the musical decay of bass notes. But this gets into the whole question of how t...

Paul,Romy's follow on posts made it clear that he was not talking about low frequency musical notes but rather low frequency ambient noise specific to the venue. As noted above, a large proportion of this noise is extra musical and some of it is gene...

Romy,OK this is getting clearer I think. Any object that receives a force will vibrate. So even before the music starts but there are hundreds of people in the seats, their feet moving around are vibrating the floor slightly. Similarly the orchestra ...
